Here’s to progress

Here’s to progress

For more than a century, Komatsu has helped build the world beneath our feet. Now, we’re helping imagine how people could one day build beyond it.

From imagination to engineering

Throughout history, people have imagined new ways to move, communicate and build. Many of these ideas seemed out of reach, until engineering made them part of everyday life.

At Komatsu, we keep working on the questions that move progress forward. Today, that means exploring how construction equipment and technologies could help people one day build on the moon.

Engineering for Earth and beyond

Before people can live on the moon, infrastructure must be built. That development begins with the essential challenge: How do you build in an environment unlike any on Earth?

Inspired by its participation in Japan’s Space Construction Innovation Project, Komatsu used digital twin technology to simulate how construction machinery could operate in the moon’s one-sixth gravity. Today, we are advancing research into lunar equipment designed for low gravity, extreme temperatures and regolith, along with the technologies needed for future construction on the moon.

The work is focused on the moon, but the thinking starts here on Earth, solving difficult construction challenges with technologies that could help shape the future of jobsites everywhere.

Be part of what’s next

Lunar construction raises questions no one has fully answered yet. That is what makes the work meaningful: the opportunity to explore new ideas, challenge assumptions and help shape technologies that could change how construction happens on Earth and beyond.

At Komatsu, progress is built by people working together to solve big challenges — across engineering, technology, manufacturing, service and more.
