Why the machines went blue

You don’t often see a Komatsu machine painted in anything but yellow. That signature color — paired with our bold blue logo — has become a familiar sight on worksites around the world, a visual shorthand for durability, technology and trust.

Recently, something new has been turning heads: Komatsu machines painted in a deep, vibrant blue — the signature hue of our partner, Atlassian Williams Racing. Why the change? Because it’s more than a paint job. It’s a statement.

This color swap is how we’re celebrating our partnership with Atlassian Williams Racing — a collaboration that reflects our shared focus on innovation, performance and investing in the next generation of talent. These blue machines are built with the same engineering excellence as always. But now, they also carry the spirit of something bigger: a cross-industry alliance rooted in precision, speed and a bold vision for the future.

From trade shows to Komatsu facilities across the globe, these blue machines are creating energy wherever they go. They serve as mobile billboards for a partnership built on collaboration, and as a physical expression of what’s possible when two performance-driven organizations come together.

Watch the animation to see how we reimagined nine Komatsu machines in Atlassian Williams Racing blue and how each one tells part of our story.

Who we are and why these machines matter

At Komatsu, we design and build advanced machines that move the world forward — literally. From mining and forestry to infrastructure and city streets, our equipment powers essential projects that support communities and economies around the world.

The nine machines featured in this special animation span a wide range of industries and applications, but all share a common Komatsu DNA: cutting-edge technology, a commitment to sustainability and operator-first design.

Let’s meet the lineup.

Meet the machines

These aren’t just painted blue, they’re working machines doing critical jobs around the world. Built with the same technology and reliability Komatsu is known for, each one supports industries and communities in powerful ways.

HB365LC-3 hybrid hydraulic excavator

The Komatsu HB365LC-3 excavator uses hybrid technology to cut fuel consumption and reduce emissions and noise while delivering plenty of power. This makes it ideal for populated areas where it’s important to minimize disturbance to residents and businesses. You might spot an HB365LC working on infrastructure projects such as tunnels, bridges and transit systems, among many other jobs.

Fun fact: It captures energy from swing braking and reuses it, like hybrid cars do, to cut fuel usage by up to 20% versus the PC360CL-11.
Ideal for: Urban infrastructure and civil engineering projects.

WA475-10 wheel loader

A versatile and heavy-duty loader designed for high-efficiency material handling in demanding environments, the Komatsu WA475-10 shows up at quarries, material yards, highway construction sites and more. It hauls the heavy loads that keep recycling centers, construction sites, ports and other critical operations running.

Fun fact: Its SmartLoader logic automatically balances engine power and hydraulics to improve fuel efficiency.
Ideal for: Quarries, highway construction, and heavy material yards.

WB97S-8 backhoe loader

This backhoe is a multi-tasker: It’s an excavator and loader combo that’s ideal for public works, utility installation and small-tomedium construction jobs. You may see it digging trenches for water, sewer and electrical lines; handling light demolition and concrete removal; or loading materials into trucks on tight job sites, to name just a few.

Fun fact: It’s built for tight spaces, combining power and mobility on sites with limited room to maneuver.
Ideal for: Utility trenching, rural construction and city infrastructure maintenance.

WA380-8 wheel loader

The Komatsu WA380-8 is a key player in material handling, with the benefit of delivering high performance and low fuel consumption. Its ideal balance between size and power make it a popular addition to mixed-use public works fleets where it can help maintain roads, parks and utility infrastructure. Look for it at construction sites, on road projects, at forestry operations and more.

Fun fact: Its eco guidance system helps operators save fuel while maintaining productivity.
Ideal for: Public works, road maintenance, quarry and forestry applications.

D71PXi-24 intelligent dozer

Smart technology gives Komatsu’s D71PXi-24 dozer an edge, with features that automate many earthmoving, grading and site preparation tasks, resulting in efficiency, accuracy and a better operator experience. The intelligent grade control system automates blade movements, making finish grading faster and more accurate with fewer passes.

Fun fact: It can automate grading down to the final pass, removing the need for traditional stakes or survey lines.
Ideal for: Precision earthmoving, site prep and large-scale grading.

WA100M-8 compact wheel loader

With its fuel efficiency, compact design and excellent maneuverability, the Komatsu WA100M-8 is perfect for light-duty applications in urban, agricultural or landscaping environments. Alleys, narrow city streets, compact parks, historically sensitive sites and similar settings require its combination of agility, power and size.

Fun fact: Despite its size, it delivers high visibility and comfort for long operating days.
Ideal for: Urban landscaping, agriculture and municipal works.

HD325-8 dump truck

When big jobs demand power, efficiency and accuracy, the Komatsu HD325 is right at home, helping contractors move large amounts of materials to build, repair and supply what’s needed. It can carry 36.5 metric tons (about 40 U.S. tons) of material and is used for high-capacity off-road jobs in mining, quarries and earthmoving.

Fun fact: Its cab suspension system improves comfort in harsh terrains — essential when you’re driving a 40-ton load.
Ideal for: Mining, quarries and heavy-duty haul roads.

FB25-12 electric forklift

Look around your home or workplace, and you’ll see things that a forklift helped deliver: It’s an essential part of any warehouse, distribution center or light manufacturing facility. This electric forklift gets the job done with zero emissions and plenty of power and it’s able to lift 2.5 tons.

Fun fact: It runs on clean electric power and is whisper-quiet, which makes it great for indoor use.
Ideal for: Warehousing, logistics and light manufacturing.

PC500LC-10M0 hydraulic excavator

Komatsu’s PC500LC-10M0 tackles heavy-duty excavation and large-scale construction, mining and civil engineering projects. It’s suited for highway and rail corridor construction, flood control and levee projects and similar big jobs that are essential to communities worldwide. It performs reliably in harsh environments and can handle demanding, round-the-clock duties.

Fun fact: One of our most durable excavators, it thrives in extreme-duty conditions.
Ideal for: Infrastructure megaprojects and large-scale mining or civil works.
