In order to contribute to the resolution of social issues through our business activities, we conducted a new analysis from the perspective of double materiality and identified particularly important challenges.
Our aim is to achieve sustainable growth through a positive cycle of social issue solutions and improving profitability by incorporating materialities into our most important activities.
The management principle of Komatsu is to maximize its corporate value through the commitment to “Quality and Reliability”. Any uncertainty that hinders this pursuit is considered a “risk,” and measures are taken to address all risks threatening the sustainable development of the Komatsu Group.
In FY2024, risks and opportunities were identified and evaluated based on changes in the business environment, reflecting the materiality analysis conducted during the formulation of the new mid-term management plan (2025–2027).
Sustainability Promotion Division under the direct control of President oversees all activities relating to promotion of our Group-wide sustainability management. With this division at the heart of our endeavors, we are striving to create an environment that facilitates the entire Group to take the initiative in tackling sustainability issues.
Engaging in dialogue with all our stakeholders is a priority for Komatsu. We not only take, but also create opportunities to share a detailed picture of our company's situation, listen to what all have to say and engage in two-way dialogue.
Based on a materiality analysis, we have established key activity themes and KPIs aimed at addressing social issues, and we are managing our progress accordingly.
Notable external assessment, indexing, and certification of our sustainability-related performance (Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) evaluation); recognition of IR activities; and our support for global initiatives are summarized below:
Komatsu's sustainability priorities are in line with international standards such as the core issues of ISO26000 and the principles of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC). Concrete examples of our initiatives to tackle these priorities include: “Komatsu's Worldwide Code of Business Conduct” (a compilation of our internal guidelines), and the “CSR Procurement Guidelines”, compliance with which, is required of all our partner companies.
