Komatsu Ltd. (hereafter “Komatsu”) (President and CEO: Takuya Imayoshi) announced that it has strengthened its global AI deployment and enablement framework to accelerate AI adoption worldwide and has begun scaling the use of AI across its entire value chain, including product development, manufacturing, sales, and service operations.
For many years, Komatsu has been creating value through the use of ICT and data-driven technologies, including Komtrax (machine monitoring system), KOM-MICS (manufacturing operations visualization system), Autonomous Haulage Systems (AHS), and Smart Construction®. Through these initiatives, the company has accumulated extensive machine operating data, construction data, and field expertise, which represent strategic assets and a key source of its competitive advantage.
Building on these data assets, Komatsu has been strengthening the foundations for AI adoption through proof-of-concept initiatives, practical use cases across regions and business units, global knowledge sharing, and workforce development programs that include AI literacy training. Going forward, the company will further accelerate these efforts to drive operational transformation and create greater customer value across its global value chain.

[Roadmap for global AI deployment]
Since fiscal year 2023, Komatsu has been advancing AI initiatives globally, developing and expanding use cases across multiple business domains. Through regional workshops, hands-on implementation sessions, and regular global forums, the company has promoted the sharing of best practices and lessons learned. These activities have enabled the accumulation of operational know-how across business sites and laid the foundation for global collaboration in AI adoption.
Leveraging this foundation, Komatsu aims to accelerate AI adoption on a company-wide, global scale with the goal of establishing a Global AI Center of Excellence (CoE) from 2027 onward. As the first step toward this vision, Komatsu will also continue to deepen AI adoption and practical implementation across its operations in Japan, strengthening the foundation for future global deployment.
To support this effort, in April 2026, Komatsu established a central AI enablement function to support the safe and rapid deployment of AI technologies. In May, the company appointed approximately 500 AI Transformation Leads across its organization. These AI Transformation Leads will lead initiatives to address operational challenges, generate successful use cases, and strengthen the foundation for broader global deployment.
At the same time, Komatsu continues to enhance AI literacy among employees worldwide while strengthening governance frameworks related to information security and risk management.
Komatsu has already implemented AI solutions across a variety of business functions, including product development, manufacturing, and service operations. Through the newly established framework, the company will expand and scale these practical capabilities throughout the entire value chain.
Key AI Applications
1. Improving Efficiency and Quality in Software Development
Komatsu is leveraging generative AI throughout the software development lifecycle, including code comprehension, code generation, code review, and test creation. These initiatives are helping improve development productivity while enhancing software quality.
2. Advancing Manufacturing Optimization
By combining KOM-MICS data with AI technologies, Komatsu has deployed anomaly detection AI for quality control and predictive maintenance, as well as computer vision technologies that digitize real-time information related not only to equipment, but also to people and materials on the production floor. These capabilities have already enabled more advanced production planning and operational optimization.
3. Enhancing Service Operations with AI bot
Komatsu is deploying AI-powered service bot that enables mechanics and dealers to quickly access technical information by searching across shop manuals, service bulletins, and other technical documentation using natural language queries. These solutions have significantly improved service efficiency and response quality. The system is already in operation across Japan, North America, Europe, Australia, and Latin America, with deployment expanding into Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.

4. Predictive Maintenance Using Machine Operating Data
Leveraging machine operating data accumulated through Komtrax and other platforms, Komatsu uses AI to predict component life, detect anomalies and potential failures, and estimate optimal overhaul timing. These capabilities are intended to improve machine uptime, reduce maintenance costs, and enhance dealers' ability to provide proactive service recommendations.

Transforming Data and Field Expertise into Value
Komatsu views AI not simply as a productivity tool, but as a foundation for transforming data and field expertise into value. This initiative represents an important step toward the next stage of growth, expanding AI adoption from individual business functions to a globally connected, company-wide capability.
Looking ahead, Komatsu will continue to broaden the use of AI across its value chain while sharing and scaling operational know-how accumulated throughout its global operations. Through these efforts, the company will further enhance business processes, products, and services, creating greater value for customers and contributing to the resolution of societal challenges.
