Komatsu Celebrates Establishment of Scholarship Program at Senegal’s CFPT-SJ with Commemorative Ceremony

Komatsu Ltd. (President and CEO: Takuya Imayoshi) held a commemorative ceremony on January 19, 2026 at CFPT-SJ, a vocational training center in the Republic of Senegal, to mark the establishment of the Komatsu Scholarship Program. The scholarship program was established in accordance with an agreement concluded between Komatsu and CFPT-SJ in 2025, with the aim of improving young people’s access to technical education and supporting the development of experienced industrial professionals.

On the day of the ceremony, attendees included the Minister of Employment and Vocational and Technical Training of Senegal, the Ambassador of Japan to Senegal, and representatives from CFPT-SJ, notably the principal, faculty members, and students. Participants also included representatives from the JICA Senegal Office, Komatsu’s distributor BIA, and other Komatsu stakeholders. These attendees gathered to celebrate Komatsu’s new educational support initiative. During the ceremony, ten scholarship recipients selected from more than 1,400 applicants were introduced, reflecting strong expectations for young talent who will help shape the future of regional industry. CFPT-SJ was also highly recognized for its continued provision of advanced technical education in Senegal and across West Africa.

Komatsu Chairman Hiroyuki Ogawa, who attended the ceremony, commented:
“This scholarship program forms part of Komatsu’s global initiatives to support human resource development and reinforces our commitment to building a sustainable society by investing in people. We look forward to seeing the scholarship recipients pursue their studies with confidence and intellectual curiosity, and ultimately contribute to the advancement of industry in the years ahead.”

Komatsu supports technical education and vocational training for use of construction and mining equipment in countries around the world. To date, the company has promoted engineer development programs and the establishment of training facilities across Africa, Asia, and other regions. The establishment of this scholarship program in Senegal reflects Komatsu’s commitment as a company dedicated to developing skills, knowledge and qualities of people.
