Komatsu Launches Scholarship Program for Students at Senegal’s National Vocational Training Center (CFPT, Centre de Formation Professionnelle et Technique SENEGAL-JAPON)

July 28, 2025

Komatsu Ltd. (hereafter “Komatsu”) (President and CEO: Takuya Imayoshi) signed a scholarship agreement on July 2nd with the Centre de Formation Professionnelle et Technique SENEGAL-JAPON (CFPT-SJ) in Senegal, as part of its ongoing commitment to human resource development. Under this agreement, Komatsu will provide scholarship support to students enrolling in CFPT’s Heavy Equipment Maintenance Program, in October 2025, who are self-funded and not receiving financial aid from the government or other organizations. Recipients will be selected based on the results of the entrance examination scheduled for September. The 10 chosen students will receive a scholarship equivalent to two years’ tuition fees.

[Signing Ceremony with CFPT-SJ Representatives]

CFPT-SJ was established in 1984 by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and is now operated by the Government of Senegal. The school currently has approximately 1,300 students enrolled, 18% of whom are women. The Japanese government has designated CFPT as one of ten Human Resource Development Centers for Business and Industry established across Africa under the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD). The school also hosts many international students from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), serving as a central hub for vocational training in the West African region.

This initiative aims to provide a sustainable solution, through educational support, to the social challenge of a shortage of construction equipment technicians in Africa. Komatsu has previously contributed to human resource development in the region, including support in designing the curriculum when the Heavy Equipment Maintenance Program was first established at CFPT-SJ. Going forward, Komatsu will continue to support education initiatives across Africa as part of its broader commitment to regional development.
