Komatsu Ltd. (hereafter “Komatsu”) (President and CEO: Takuya Imayoshi) announced the first full-scale deployment of its “Smart Construction” digital solution in Singapore for the Changi Airport Terminal 5 project, a major infrastructure initiative supporting the country’s national aviation strategy.
Construction began in May 2025, with completion targeted for the mid-2030s. As a next-generation mega hub airport, the project is regarded as a core infrastructure supporting Singapore’s economic growth and global competitiveness.
Komatsu will deploy a suite of advanced solutions, including 3D Machine Guidance, 3D Machine Guidance Flex, and SC Dashboard. These technologies enable real-time tracking of earthwork progress, seamless equipment integration, and data-driven project management, helping to enhance operational efficiency and decision-making across the project site.

Changi Airport Terminal 5 is a landmark infrastructure development spanning approximately 1,080 hectares (10.8 square kilometres), nearly doubling the size of the existing airport. The mega terminal is designed to exceed the combined scale of Terminals 1 to 4. It is expected to accommodate an initial capacity of 50 million passengers annually, with potential expansion to 70 million passengers.
As digital technologies continue to transform the construction industry, Komatsu has been actively promoting ICT-driven construction technologies and digital solutions to the Singapore government and leading contractors, contributing to the digital transformation of construction sites across the country.
To date, Komatsu has delivered a large number of construction equipment for the Terminal 5 project, together with the implementation of Smart Construction solutions in specific phases in collaboration with EARTHBRAIN Ltd., Komatsu’s subsidiary and a developer and provider of Smart Construction solutions.

“Every construction site is different, and every customer has their own unique challenges. We're really pleased to be supporting our customer here at Changi Airport as they take on this exciting project. Through Smart Construction, Komatsu does more than just provide machines — we work closely with our customers, from machine operation through to the use of digital site data, supporting them in improving productivity and making better decisions every step of the way.” said Chikashi Shike, Senior Executive Officer and President, Solution Division of Komatsu Ltd.
Globally, Komatsu has delivered over 9,000 units of 3D Machine Guidance systems and more than 22,000 intelligent Machine Control (iMC) machines. “We're really excited to bring our expertise to this project. By combining equipment, digital technologies and data, we're supporting our customers to work more safely and productively on site. We believe this initiative will accelerate the digital transformation of construction site in Singapore, contributing to broader digitalization efforts across Asia.” said Yasuji Nishiura, Senior Executive Officer and President, Construction Equipment & Regional Marketing Division of Komatsu Ltd.
Komatsu remains committed to addressing industry challenges and supporting sustainable development through innovative digital solutions, including Smart Construction.
