Komatsu Ltd. (President and CEO: Takuya Imayoshi) has decided to acquire Malwa Forest AB (Head office: Hyssna, Sweden; CEO: Hans Lindberg; hereafter “Malwa”), a manufacturer of forestry machinery, through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Komatsu Forest AB (Head office: Umeå, Sweden; CEO: Jens Bengtsson). The impact of this acquisition on Komatsu’s consolidated business results is expected to be minimal.

During the stages of forest growth, thinning is required to promote healthy tree development. However, thinning operations can damage tree roots, which may negatively affect growth. In the Nordic region, in particular, soil remains soft for longer periods due to snowmelt and heavy rainfall associated with climate change. As a result, demand is increasing for forestry machinery that can perform thinning operations efficiently while minimizing damage to soil and trees. Malwa is a specialized manufacturer of CTL*¹ forestry machinery for thinning operations that meets these needs. Its product lineup includes lightweight and compact wheeled harvesters and forwarders with excellent maneuverability.
Through this acquisition, Komatsu will gain technological capabilities and a product lineup of lightweight and compact CTL forestry machinery suitable for thinning operations, which the company did not previously possess, and will pursue synergies by leveraging its global sales and service network. By providing a broader range of options to meet the mechanization needs of forestry operations, from lightweight and compact machines that minimize soil impact to highly productive large machines, Komatsu aims to contribute to value creation across the entire circular forestry process.
