Komatsu Ltd. (President and CEO: Takuya Imayoshi) has entered into a strategic agreement with Bangkok Motor Works Co., Ltd. (BMW; headquartered in Bangkok, Thailand; President: Pranitan Phornprapha), Komatsu’s distributor in Thailand and Cambodia. Through this partnership, Komatsu and BMW have established a joint venture to operate distributorships for Komatsu’s construction and mining equipment in Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar, and Brunei. Previously, these distributorships were under Komatsu’s wholly owned subsidiary, Komatsu Holdings Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (formerly known as UKHE*1) (“KHMS”)*2. The closing process for the agreement was completed.
Since 2010 in Thailand and 2015 in Cambodia, Komatsu and BMW have successfully collaborated through joint ventures to deliver high-quality equipment and services. To further support sustainable growth in the construction and mining equipment business across Southeast Asia, Komatsu and BMW have agreed to expand their joint-venture distributorship to include four additional countries. Under the new arrangement, BMW will acquire a 60% equity stake in KHMS subsidiaries in these countries, while Komatsu will retain a 40% share.
This expansion underscores Komatsu’s commitment to unified operation, enhanced customer support, sustainable growth, and improving profitability throughout the region. By leveraging the strengths of both organizations, Komatsu aims to drive innovation, broaden market reach, and deliver superior value to customers.
The impact on Komatsu’s consolidated financial results is expected to be limited.
