Bangkok Komatsu wins the Deming Prize

Oct. 11, 2023

Bangkok Komatsu Co., Ltd. (hereafter “BKC”) (President: Charoen Ruengwilai), a subsidiary of Komatsu Ltd. (hereafter “Komatsu”) (President and CEO: Hiroyuki Ogawa), has received the Deming Prize for 2023.

Since 1961, when Komatsu introduced the company-wide quality control (QC) program, Komatsu has proactively promoted total quality control (TQM) over the years. In 1964 Komatsu won the Deming Application Prize (currently, Deming Prize) and the Japan Quality Control Prize in 1981. Komatsu has also introduced TQM to overseas subsidiaries and cultivates a work environment where national staff (locally hired employees) themselves work to identify problems and tasks at their workplaces and add value to their own work, thereby facilitating the localization of management. Komatsu Shantui Construction Machinery Co., Ltd. in China won the Deming Prize in 2013 and PT Komatsu in Indonesia in 2018.

BKC has been working to strengthen its quality business management system, as an important cross-sourcing* production base which responds global demand. With quality at the core of its management, local employees and expatriates, from top management to individual employee, have worked hard together to practice TQM and improve organizational capabilities, which led to this award.

BKC will continue to aim to be a company that creates value for our customers and brings smiles to all partners including our customers, distributors and suppliers.

DANTOTSU Value is defined as customer value creation that generates a positive cycle of improvement of earnings and ESG resolutions in Komatsu's mid-term management plan, entitled "DANTOTSU Value - Together, to "The Next" for sustainable growth". Through this DANTOTSU Value, Komatsu will strive to create new values in order to take steady steps forward to the next stage for the workplace of the future and pass on a sustainable future to the next generation.

BKC is working closely with its customers, distributors, suppliers and parent company, Komatsu, for sustainable growth, developing components that meet local requirements and shortening lead times for new products. The company has implemented throughout plant management, and in particular, 5S and TPM have taken root on the site, and the employees are working in a bright and clean environment even in the casting factory. By promoting human resource development and taking the initiative in implementing TQM activities by top management, a common understanding of TQM has permeated the work site, realizing a company-wide integration.
