-Reduction of CO2 emissions and reinforcement of Reman components operations- New Reman plant in South Africa

Mar. 15, 2021

Komatsu Ltd. (President and CEO: Hiroyuki Ogawa) (hereafter “Komatsu”) has completed the construction of a new Reman plant on the head office campus of Komatsu Africa Holdings (Pty) Ltd (Johannesburg, Republic of South Africa).

Reman (remanufacturing) is a recycle-oriented operations in which Komatsu dissembles, washes, replaces parts, reassembles, paints and inspects key components which are collected for periodic exchange, remanufactures them to quality and performance on par with those of new components. Reman operations are a strength of Komatsu made possible by in-house development and production of key components.

Built to efficiently deliver high-quality, remanufactured key components to customers in Southern Africa, this new Reman plant features a floor layout which ensures the efficient flow of collected components (cores) from reception, washing, disassembly inspection and assembly, to shipment. More specifically, the floor is divided clearly into two areas, i.e., one area to handle the washing and disassembly inspection of cores stained with dirt, and the other area to assemble cleaned cores, thereby achieving high-quality remanufactured components. The plant also offers excellent allowance for expansion, in terms of machine allocation and floor layout, to meet fluctuations of market demand and to increase the amount of handling models in the future.

Reman operations promotes the 3Rs (reduce, reuse, and recycle) by remanufacturing and reusing components. It also contributes to reducing CO2 emissions.

Construction of the head office campus of Komatsu Africa Holdings began in 2016, and construction of all facilities was completed with the new Reman plant. By positioning the head office campus as the central hub in Southern Africa, Komatsu is going to further strengthen its support operations for customers in the region.

While continuing its commitment to Quality and Reliability and working to maximize its corporate value, Komatsu is working to achieve safe, highly-productive, smart and clean workplaces of the future through DANTOTSU Value (ESG solutions and improvement of earnings through customer value creation).
