Komatsu Europe headquarters: A strategic hub supporting essential work

At an expansive campus in Vilvoorde, Belgium, hundreds of people provide strategic and operational support for Komatsu staff, partners and customers throughout Europe, Africa and parts of the Middle East. Serving as headquarters for Komatsu Europe International, it is home to more than 400 people with a wide range of skills and duties, all of them supporting an extensive network of production, service and distribution activities.

Belgium has been a strategic hub for Komatsu Europe since 1967, with a location that offers convenient access to staff and quick delivery of parts to many locations. The Vilvoorde facility, near Brussels, was established in 1973 and is the base of operations for Komatsu Europe’s top executives.

The atmosphere here is multicultural and international. Teams work with customers, staff and partners in many countries and cultures. They come from many places, too, with about 35 nationalities represented. A German engineer might collaborate with an Italian technician, a Belgian facilities manager might work with a French distribution supervisor.

An office facility houses people who provide expertise, support and services that Komatsu facilities throughout Europe rely on. These include training, sales and aftersales, engineering, marketing, legal, compliance, finance, human resources and technical support.

While no products are manufactured in Vilvoorde, the staff here collaborates with production facilities throughout Europe and performs functions critical to their operations. They work on projects that closely support a customer base and distributor network that ranges from the frigid Arctic circle in northern Europe to the sunny Mediterranean to the vast savannas of Africa.

The innovative minds here not only work in the office but go into the field. With a practical and hands-on approach, many visit customers, distributors and partners to observe their activities on the front lines. By gathering authentic feedback and building strong connections, they ensure that Komatsu’s support and solutions are perfectly aligned with real-world needs.

The scene at Vilvoorde is a bustling one. This is where Komatsu Europe imports and distributes Komatsu equipment and manages a massive inventory of parts to keep that equipment well maintained and continually operating.

At the distribution center, state-of-the-art technology combines with a committed staff to access anything from a tiny component to a gigantic engine in moments, ensuring fast and accurate deliveries. Operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the center’s 59,000-square-meter warehouse stocks 180,400 kinds of parts, for a total parts inventory of 4.6 million. Each day, 830 packages are shipped, and 55 trucks come and go.
